In consultation with BC drilling companies, this training has been developed to provide the knowledge and skills necessary to work safely and productively as an entry-level Driller's Helper on a diamond drill. This 11 day course incorporates theory, a number of safety certificates and hands-on practice on a drill.
Course topics include:
- Familiarization with the mineral exploration drilling work environment
- After work procedures
- Drill pad construction
- Set-up, operation, and maintenance of a water supply pump and water line
- Efficient handling of drill rods and inner core tubes
- Accurate marking of core boxes
Students will gain basic knowledge and hands-on, practical skills to work safely and productively as a driller’s helper on a diamond drill.
The Surface Diamond Driller’s Helper course is available upon demand.
Driller’s Helper is a very physically demanding position. Students entering into this field should be in good physical health and be prepared to live in a remote camp environment, working 12 – 14 hour shifts, day or night, when employed. A mechanical aptitude and strong work ethic are traits preferred by employers.
