AUXILIARY TERM INSTRUCTOR - PROFESSIONAL COOK (New Aiyansh)

Job Description and Duties 

Northwest Community College (NWCC) invites applications for an auxiliary term Professional Cook Instructor in New Aiyansh (Wii Lax Kap or Gitlaxtaamiks). This position will include 840 hours of instruction commencing February 4, 2019 and ending August 16, 2019 (subject to minimum enrolment). A flexible schedule is required as there will be evening/weekend work, and travel. Salary will be in accordance with the BCGEU Instructor salary scale.

Duties:  Facilitate learning, oversee and ensure shop safety, maintain the Industry Training Authority curriculum and examinations in the Professional Cook Level 1 program, complete the related administrative, record keeping and monitoring activities as well as other related duties as required.

Qualifications 

Qualifications:  Inter-provincial Red Seal Certificate and Food Safe Level 2 Certificate along with five years hospitality industry experience as chef and three years of post-secondary instructional experience. Preferences include C.C.C. certification from the Canadian Culinary Institute and Provincial Instructor Diploma (PID). An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Require skills/abilities include:

·   Strong theoretical knowledge

·   Excellent organizational, communication and facilitation skills

·   Demonstrated ability to motivate and mentor learners of a variety of ages

·   Intermediate computer skills (word processing, excel, email)

·   Willingness to embrace the characteristics of our strategic plan (adventurous, transformative, and integrity) and apply them to teaching
