REGISTERED ASL - ENGLISH INTERPRETERS - ACCESSIBILITY SUPPORT SERVICES (Terrace)

Job Description and Duties 

Term Full-time (2 positions)

(Subject to student enrolment)

Northwest Community College (NWCC), Terrace Campus, invites applications for two term full-time Registered ASL - English Interpreters (RASLEI). The appointments will commence August 31, 2017 and end July 31, 2018 (subject to student enrolment). Salary will be in accordance with the BCGEU Support Staff Salary Scale, level 11.

Duties:  The primary responsibility of Interpreters is to provide signed ASL - English interpreting service for the Enhanced Welding program, Career & College Preparation (CCP) program, and Esthetics program.  The RASLEI will be required to review course outlines, textbooks and other course materials to ensure understanding of any technical terms and attend meetings as required.

The Enhanced Welding and Esthetics programs will include instruction in a classroom setting, welding shop/esthetics salon as well as practicums, community projects and field trips. Some travel between campus buildings and to student practicum work sites will be required. CCP will involve self-paced learning within an active multi-level classroom.

Qualifications 

Graduate of a recognized Interpreter Training Program (ITP) and is able to match linguistically with student’s needs along with experience interpreting in a post-secondary setting. Experience working within an educational team would be an asset.

Demonstrated competence on the Post-Secondary Sign Language Interpreting Screening Tool is preferred.  Active WAVLI membership status with the West Coast Association of Visual Language Interpreters (WAVLI) is required.
