Infant and Child Mental Health

Overview

The Infant & Child Mental Health (ICMH) program is designed to enhance the ability of front-line workers to effectively and empathically understand and support children presenting with mental health concerns. Five offered courses focus on developmental process, as well as risk factors that can impede normative development. Psychiatric presentations and their impact on children and their families are explored while prevention and intervention strategies are considered through a cultural and developmental lens. Courses are structured to enrich learning for students currently involved in NWCC’s Health & Human Health Service programs (i.e. ECE, Social Services Work, Nursing and Education) and engage Professionals working in community-based and institutional settings who would like to seek Professional Development.

Career Opportunities

Participation in the program is geared toward enhancing the work of child care workers, child safety workers, early childhood educators, health care providers, infant development workers, social workers, community crisis workers, and education assistants. The program can be used as a unique professional development experience for those already working; or as a complement to education.
